About Us

Since

1969

Our team’s heritage is based on a long-standing tradition of delivering on our promises and providing the very best service in the mechanical contracting and service industry. And it all goes back to a very humble beginning, at a time when the first astronauts walked on the moon, the Miracle Mets won baseball’s World Series, and the Woodstock music festival took place.

A lot may have changed over the last 45-plus years, but what’s remained constant has been our team’s commitment to excellence. We achieve this by delivering outstanding service to our customers, by supporting our associates through professional and safety education and by always striving to improve every day. That’s the formula that has gotten us this far, and it will help us reach our goals in the future.

Our Story

CHC Mechanical Contractors started when three Nashville-based investors purchased Cookeville’s American Heating & Cooling from Cantrell Brown in 1969. With just three trucks and less than $100,000 in annual sales, they grew the company to a quality provider in four years. Garry Floeter, who was named general manager in 1973, acquired 25% of the outstanding stock, was elected president of the corporation and changed the company name to Cookeville Heating & Cooling (CHC). The company grew significantly from 1973 to 1990, and the services division was organized into a separate company, Cookeville Mechanical Services (CHC). Soon after, Floeter assumed full ownership of CHC. CHC maintained the commercial work, while CHC handled residential work. Later, Floeter sold his interest in CHC to the other stockholder, enabling him to put all of his attention into growing CHC. That growth included the establishment of a commercial maintenance division, Cookeville Heating & Cooling Services, which eventually became its own company. In the years that followed, both divisions of CHC have only continued to grow.

In April 2018, Garry Floeter sold CHC Mechanical Contractors to Scott Chambers, Daniel Lancaster, and his daughter, Tiffany Dabbs. Both Scott and Daniel have over 20 years of experience with CHC, while Tiffany, who started working at the company at the age of 12, has been involved throughout the years. Over the last few years, Garry has gradually stepped aside, allowing the new ownership team to transition into leadership and bring their own approach to running the business. Garry still remains active in the company, though his focus has shifted toward aspects he finds more enjoyable like design-build projects rather than dealing with administrative tasks. CHC remains close to Garry’s heart, and his presence and wealth of knowledge from over 50 years in the industry continue to be invaluable. Although his role may have changed, Garry will always be part of the CHC family.
